CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP ROUND TWO
AC WHETSTONE 4 ATHLETIC BILBAUM 3
There were scenes of wild celebration as second division Whetstone sent Division One high-flyers Bilbaum tumbling out of the cup.
Two goals from Rob Cohen and one apiece from Alon Pinhas and Aaron Benjamin completed a memorable morning for the Whetstone wonder kids.
Sam Roth headed Athletic Bilbaum ahead very early on following a well-worked free-kick, but AC Whetstone were soon 2-1 up before Ben Bell equalised before half-time.
The second half saw AC Whetstone take a two-goal lead. Julius Judah came off the bench near the end to flick the ball over the Whetstone keeper, but Whetstone held firm.
Whetstone joint-manager Clive Nathan told JC Sport: "Clearly Shabbat UK had the desired effect on our team! The boys came out raring to go and despite going a goal behind made numerous chances.
"We really could have had a hatful of goals today, but Bilbaum are a good side from a higher division so we are delighted to win by any score."
Bilbaum joint-manager Julius Judah told JC Sport: "We struggled to get out of the blocks today. AC Whetstone played very well and deserved a win. Their midfielder Rob Cohen had a fantastic game.
"We can now concentrate on the league and hopefully continue the fine form we displayed earlier in the season."
