The club has produced some of the league’s top players, but finding a new and improved version of Phil Caplin, Dave Peters, Rick Harris and Darren Saffer is easier said than done.
I've every confidence Marks will use his pulling power to bring in some big guns. Many believed he would build his team around the creative genius that is Luke Brookner last summer, but in fairness, so many players have impressed this season, most notably defenders Michael Khalastchi and Ben Harris.
* I popped in to the launch of the new Kick It Out phone app earlier this week and was impressed by what I saw. It’s been arguably the busiest season in the organisation’s 20-year history, but they continue to tackle the issue of racism in football and never shirk a challenge.
What would really help KIO Director Roison Wood is a bigger budget and a more sizeable workforce.
As we have seen, there are some serious issues surrounding the beautiful game and I’d much rather see their efforts promoted before, during and after televised matches rather than Ray Winstone’s betting adverts.
I would urge every Jewish football fan and player to download the free app which is set to launch just before the start of the new season.
* Having completed the Maccabi GB Community Fun Run in good time, I’ll return to Rowley Lane for another important meeting this weekend. It was great to be part of an event that brought a large number of participants and charities together and my family are hoping to step up to the 5K in 2014.
North-west London bragging rights that will be on the line on Sunday when London Maccabi Vale hosts MAL in the Middlesex Sunday Cricket League. Several players who have been selected for the Team GB Maccabiah squad will be on show, with the clash between LMV’s Adam Brand and MAL’s Yoav Lebens worth the admission fee alone.
Opener Mark Landau has also been in top form with the bat for MAL, while LMV skipper Neil Lederman is full of confidence following a stunning eight-wicket haul on duty for Radlett 2nd XI.
