A man-of-the-match display from Chaim Bordon inspired Faithfold B to a stunning 2-1 victory over league leaders Catford & Bromley.
A very entertaining game of football featured good quality play from both sides in spite of the pouring rain. With numerous absentees for the Greens, including top-scorer Richard Fogelman, it wasn't going to be an easy home game against the Cats but Faithfold fought well and came out worthy winners.
In a game where Catford edged the possession, it was Faithfold who took the lead in the first half through debutant Bordon when he pounced onto the loose ball and poked it past the onrushing keeper.
Faithfold created a couple of one-on-one chances but credit to Catford's goalkeeper who got down quickly and kept the difference to one.
Catford's only chance came at the 40th minute when their centre forward was brought down right on the edge of the box but the referee deemed it to be just outside the box rather than a penalty.
The intensity in the second half was raised but Faithfold's back-line led by captain Josh Barnett and stand-in centre back Tomer Weider, were more sturdy than the Great Wall of China, cutting out any threat and winning every first and second ball.
Faithfold then doubled their lead on the hour mark after Barnett's free-kick bounced over the keeper in typical Sunday League fashion.
With tempers flaring, Catford had a man sent off following an altercation with David Garson but with 10 men and 10 minutes to go, Catford cut the deficit to half after Jamie Sinai was brought down in the box and the striker himself then converted it from 12 yards.
Deep into injury time Catford won a free kick 35 yards from goal but goalkeeper James Stanton palmed the well hit shot to safety, confirming the three points for the Faithfold.
Faithfold co-manager James Stanton told JC Sport: "We are on a good run of form and we fully deserved the win today against the league leaders.
"All 13 of us put in a massive shift and we worked for each other all game long.
"Absolutely nothing went through our back line and we created a handful of clear-cut chances."
