SOUTHGATE HARMEN B 3 MONTANA BOCA UNITED A 2
Alex Bourne and Ben Rosenblatt (2) were the scorers as Harmen B won a five-goal thriller against Montana in Southgate.
It was no surprise that the masses turned up for the clash of the titans at Ashmole as Harmen took on Montana, in what turned out to be a feast of quality football, attacking quality and defensive strength.
Harmen started the game the stronger team, and deservedly took the lead through an excellent Bourne finish after being fed a delightful ball from Daniel Amram.
Following the goal, Harmen continued to press forward, creating numerous chances but a string of excellent saves from the Montana keeper, meant the score remained at 1-0 until half time.
In the second half, Harmen continued as they left off, creating and missing enough chances that could have seen Harmen reach double figures for the second week running.
Finally Harmen got the all important second goal when Rosenblatt was fed a delicious ball through and calmly slid the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
Montana now started to push forward and Harmen had Gavin Fox in goal to thank for one of the saves of the season to keep the clean sheet intact. Montana were rewarded when a speculative effort from Harmen old boy James Sandler looped over the keeper and into the net to make it 2-1.
However, soon after Harmen were ahead again after a virtuoso run from the brilliant Ilan Ben-Zion, past four Montana players, won them a free kick when he was upheld. Rosenblatt stood up to the plate and fired into the top corner one of the greatest free kicks that will ever be seen in Sunday league football to make it 3-1.
Montana now piled forward looking for a goal to bring them back into it and got their second from a short corner to make it 3-2 with Sandler claiming his second of the match.
With Montana pouring forward in the last few minutes and after what felt like one of the longest halves ever to be played, the full whistle was blown and Harmen took a deserved victory 3-2.
Harmen boss Marc Cohen said: “I thought the boys played brilliantly today. We should have won by more and the scoreline flattered Montana but I’m pleased to take the three points.
"The squad weren’t at full fitness, with Kershberg having a particularly painful looking scab and Bradley Cohen suffering from a late night but we all pulled together to get a thoroughly deserved win."
