MANCHESTER ACCOUNTANTS LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
South Manchester Sports Club 3 Deloittes 1
South Manchester effectively sealed the Manchester Accountants League Premier title with a 3-1 win over fourth bottom Deloittes.
South knew before the game that a win would effectively seal the championship and they flew out of the blocks when David Chaytow smashed a 30-yard effort into the top corner within 60 seconds of the start.
This should have steadied the nerves but South looked a little unsure despite dominating possession and were giving away a few unnecessary free-kicks in dangerous areas.
Deloittes had already hit the post from one set-piece when after another free-kick a scramble saw Deloittes bring the scores level.
South seemed to react well as the equaliser seemed to reignite their title aspirations and they were to score twice before half time. Jack Lee score after a flowing move and Marc Yaffe finished well after finding himself free 15 yards out.
The second half was a bit of a muted affair as the strong wind seemed to kill the game but South hit the woodwork five times seeking the goal to kill the game off.
It never came but at the final whistle the boys knew they had done enough as they are now six points clear of Mace, their only rivals with both teams having two games left but South having an 18-goal better goal difference which barring a miracle is not going to be overtaken.
South Manchester manager Darryl Lee said: "The Mace manager told us to read about our 5-1 defeat in the Jewish press and hopefully he will get his copy that pronounces South Manchester as champions.
"Since losing to them in the league we have won three league games on the spin against decent opposition. Any team that scores 84 goals in 18 league games deserves to win something - and we have won the best prize of all -the title!"
