HERTS SENIOR COUNTY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
WORMLEY ROVERS 0 LONDON LIONS 4
London Lions secured a resounding four-goal away win that put them at the top of the Herts County Premier Division after a superb display at Wormley.
Whilst Lions had won all six league games before today, Wormley were likely to prove a sterner test for Lions, who once again kept a very settled line-up, bar Harry Hatchwell who was missing.
However, Lions first-half display blew their hosts away. Charlie Kasler’s good work on the right had side freed top-scorer James Gershfield to open the score.
Two goals toward the end of the half effectively ended the match; firstly Charlie Rubin’s cross from the left back berth found its way to Austin Lipman who smashed a half-volley into the bottom right hand corner.
This was swiftly followed by another from Gershfield who notched his 10th goal of the season so far when Andy Glynne’s long ball was helped on to the Lions striker, and his finish ensured a 3-0 scoreline at the break.
The second half was a more even affair, but the result was never in doubt as Lions maintained another clean sheet from the defence and ‘keeper David Myers.
The icing on the cake saw man-of-the-match Lipman smash his second after Rubin and Kennet on the left again worked the ball across to the grateful Lipman.
Lions are now two points clear at the summit of the table, but it’s early days and plenty of tougher games await, starting next week against second placed Standon & Puckeridge who were champions last season.
