GB swimmers will make a splash, says Russo

articlemain

Samantha Russo believes exciting times lie ahead for the Team Maccabi GB swimming squad competing at the European Maccabi Games 2015 in Berlin.

GB swimmers have a proud history in this competition with an impressive haul of medals. At the 2011 event in Vienna, 10 medals were won by the likes of Hollie Fisher, Trevor Pears and Naomi Ayrton. The latter’s sister, Rachel, has been selected for Berlin and will hope to follow in her sibling’s footsteps.

She will be joined by experienced JCC Maccabi Games swimmer Daniel Schindler, who shone for Team MGB last summer at Cherry Hill.

Trevor Pears will also be looking to add to his tally this year as he goes as Team MGB’s only Masters swimmer.

Coach Samantha Russo said: “We have speed, style and loads of smiles in this young team and it’s an exciting experience for any athlete to represent their country at a major games."

Team Maccabi GB will compete alongside 2,000 other Jewish athletes from 30 countries from July 26 to August 5, making it the biggest international Jewish sports tournament of the year and the first time the competition has ever been held in Germany.
