Deano just the man for Dickov

articlemain

Dean Furman has expressed his delight at being appointed the new captain of Oldham Athletic.

Midfielder Furman, 23, was given the armband by manager Paul Dickov after Reuben Hazell left the club.

And the former Rangers and Chelsea man says he can't wait to get going after being given the role for the new season.

"It's a massive honour," he said. "I'll be the sort of captain who leads by example and won't change my game too much.

"The manager pulled me into the office last week and asked me if I fancied it and I jumped at the chance.

"It's fantastic for me as I'm still young and learning the game but I can't wait to get started."

Manager Dickov added: "Though Dean didn't have the armband last season, he was a leader both on and off the pitch.

"Dean leads by example in the way he trains and also handles himself away from the game.

"He is a credit to himself and, if every player were like him, my job would be a lot easier than it is.

"He also commands great respect from the players and, had there been a vote among them, I am sure they would have chosen Dean to become captain."
