Austin Lipman was the hat-trick hero as London Lions finished the weekend in second place after crushing Evergreen 8-2 in the HSCL Premier Division.

Making just one change from the midweek win against Cuffley, the visitors maintained their early season promise by running riot in Kings Langley.

The Lions took a matter of minutes to get going, with Lipman opening the score. This was quickly followed by striker James Gershfield doubling the lead.

With a helpful tailwind, Lions made it three, with Josh Kennet this time finishing off a nice move; and just before the interval Lipman scored his second of the afternoon to give Lions a dominant 4-0 scoreline at half-time.

The rout continued nine minutes into the second half, with Kennet converting his second of the day before a further quickfire two goals – the first a hat-trick penalty from Lipman, followed by Gershfield’s second from the impressive Jordan Marks’ pass making it 7-0 Lions.

Evergreen netted a consolation after a good move, before substitute Charlie Rubin got on the act to make it 8-1.

The hosts replied with another late goal, but it was a small dent in an otherwise ruthless Lions performance.

Manager Andy Landesberg said: "Having failed to be persistent in front of goal over the first couple of games, today was one of those days where every cross found a Lions player, and every shot seemed to go in.

"We have made a decent start, and we have had a very consistent line-up which helps.

"We have the likes of Adam Arnold, Rocky Spitzer, Max Kyte, David Myers, Jake Rinsler and others all to come in and who will all want to be part of the action.

"We feel like we are in a promising position, but we are only three games in, so can take nothing for granted.’
