V More than 500 Chanukah gifts have been distributed to people in need in Israel as a result of a MyIsrael campaign which raised £12,500.
Presents included 142 sets of arts and crafts kits for children with communication difficulties, Shabbat meals for needy families and almost 100 pairs of prescription glasses.
Donors gave in the name of a loved one, who then received a card with details of the charity supported. Many of the cards were designed by British teens as part of MyIsrael bar- and batmitzvah projects.
North London mum Deanna Rosenthal said dedicating a night of Chanukah to the project had been “a brilliant experience for my kids.
“They’re used to receiving a small toy or some chocolate coins, so watching their faces light up as they open their cards and discover who their gift has helped is a real pleasure. I’m sure the impact of those cards will last a lot longer than most toys in our house.”
