If you watch Sky TV, own a mobile phone, go to a hospital, play video games or use internet banking, you are probably using Israeli technology, research or products.

The country is currently rated the third most productive hi-tech and innovation region in the world, second only to California and Massachusetts.

Everyday products such as Sky boxes, memory sticks, computer firewalls, anti-virus software, mobile phones, Intel computers, Microsoft software, direct electronic printers and solar water heaters all use technology developed in Israel, much at world-renowned universities, the Technion and the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Sheridan Gould, executive director of Weizmann UK, said: "People need to know that Israeli institutions are some of the world leaders in technology and innovation. That's astounding considering the age and size of the country. But it gets lost in the political mire."
