articlemain

Noble prize-winning politician Lord Trimble was honoured at the Zionist Federation’s annual dinner with an award to recognise his support for Israel. The former Northern Ireland First Minister was an independent observer at the Turkel Commission, set up by Israel to investigate last year’s Gaza flotilla incident. Lord Trimble told 400 guests at London’s Marriott Hotel that he was impressed by Israel’s openness during the inquiry. Awards were also handed to Louise Ellman MP for her pro-Israel efforts in Parliament, and lawyer and JC chair Anthony Julius for his support for Israel. The event, which raised £100,000 for the ZF, was sponsored by El Al and the JC.
