The word “school bus” will have a new meaning for pupils at Sinai School in Kenton.

The primary school has acquired a double-decker from London bus operator Metroline to turn into a library.

A parent has drawn up initial designs to convert the vehicle, which will be housed in the playground. The plan is to start using it by the summer.

Juliette Lipshaw, Sinai’s headteacher, said that, in an age of technology, she wanted children to “revitalise their enthusiasm for reading real books. We hope that this will help to maintain our excellent reading levels in the school and give the children a rich variety of genre in their reading”.

Sean O’Shea, Metroline’s chief operating officer said converting the bus “presents a number of challenges for our engineering team and we look forward to working with the school community to help the 
project.”
