A school in north London for children with special educational needs has received an “outstanding” rating in its latest Ofsted inspection.
Side By Side, located in Stoke Newington on the Ronson, Wohl, Esfandi Campus, was praised by inspectors, who said that “pupils receive first class education and care at this exceptional school”.
They noted that pupils were curious about learning, achieved increasingly well as they matures, and “enjoy coming to school” with “impressive attitudes to learning”.
Since it opened, Side by Side has climbed up the ranks, achieving “satisfactory” in its 2008 and 2011 Ofsted inspections, climbing to a “good” rating in 2018 and 2022, before moulding itself into an “outstanding” school today.
Headteacher Gerald Lebrett said the accolade was due to “the relentless commitment and passion of every member of our staff”, adding: “Their hard work and dedication make Side By Side a truly special place for our pupils to grow and succeed.”
Demand for places at the school has shot up over the years, starting as a small playgroup in the home of founder Rebecca Rumpler 28 years ago to having over 120 learning on its state-of-the-art campus today.
Chair of trustees Jacob Sorotzkin called the Ofsted rating a “shared achievement for the entire community, reflecting the commitment of everyone who believes in our mission”.

He paid tribute to head teacher Mr Lebrett, “whose outstanding leadership and tireless dedication have been instrumental, not only during the inspection, but every single day, in ensuring Side by Side continues to thrive”.
The school, which relocated to its new building in December 2024, released a statement, thanking donors for being “pivotal in creating the space and resources needed to deliver outstanding education and care”.
But “at the heart of everything we do” were the pupils, said the school. “We want to especially celebrate our wonderful students, whose courage, determination, and progress inspire us every day.”
Side By Side has an integrated nursery for mainstream children and those with special needs. Its main school teaches children with SEN between ages five and 19.
