The London School of Jewish Studies has introduced a new route for training teachers — from January, its part-time BA and MA degrees in Jewish Education can be taken entirely online.
The new option will make it easier for people to obtain qualifications while working or juggling family commitments and make LSJS degrees — which are offered in tandem with Middlesex University — available to students from abroad.
Dr Tamra Wright, LSJS director of academic studies, said “distance education has been part of our vision for the partnership with Middlesex from the beginning. At last, we have the opportunity to share the first-class teaching we do at LSJS with the wider Jewish world.”
The BA degree combines Jewish Studies with professional topics such as classroom management and child development.
Recent MA graduates have included Sephardi leader Rabbi Joseph Dweck.
The online course has been backed by the Pincus Fund for Jewish Education.
Earlier this year, 27 LSJS students gained Qualified Teacher Status with nine specialising in Jewish studies.
