Menorah Foundation's marvellous mural

Artist Solomon Souza brings a taste of Israel to the Edgware primary

Street artist Solomon Souza has brought colour to the entrance of Menorah Foundation School with his new mural for the Edgware primary.

Depicting the Old City of Jerusalem, it includes the seven species of fruit associated with the Land of Israel, which were used in the offering of the first fruits in Temple times.

“This particular mitzvah obligates us in showing hakoras hatov , gratitude for all that we receive,” headteacher Karen Kent explained.

The menorah “shines with blue flames, the same colour as the Old City, sending out the message that our hope is our children will radiate that special eternal light blazing their own paths and making their own outstanding contributions throughout their lives.”

Near the bottom of the mural the name Dovi appears, which alludes to a past pupil who died a few years ago and is “sorely missed by the MFS family”.

The headteacher said the message was clear, “Once an MFS child, always an MFS child.
“We will continue to look on in pride and extend our help whenever necessary to whoever has flown our nest.”
