JCoSS student wins mask design competition

The contest was run by Barnet to promote awareness of race hatred

Rebecca Schwartz, a year-7 pupil at JCoSS, has won a borough competition to design a Covid mask to help raise awareness of race hate.

The Barnet Safer Transport Team, which offered the challenge, printed her winning entry on a 100 masks worn by schoolchildren to spread the message.

“There are many acts of racism and hate in the world that shouldn’t happen and need to be stopped,” Rebecca said.

“I wanted my design to make people aware of this and by using bright colours the mask would be more noticeable.”

But if budding designers missed out this time, the transport team is holding a new mask challenge — to promote female safety and the “Me Too” campaign.
