A team of year 9-students from JCoSS have been declared the winners of the creative challenge in this year’s Etgar Israel.

The 20 teams from four Jewish secondary schools were asked to imagine they were recently arrived immigrants in Israel and write a postcard home. As well as drawing on their knowledge of the Etgar Israel Handbook, they were given a range of historical sources as background.

Marks were awarded for the quality of writing, as well as historical knowledge and the empathy they showed in the cards.

Atarah Ruback, Etgar Israel co-ordinator, said, “We were delighted with many of the entries which were very moving and thoughtful. In the end, the team from JCoSS was the first choice of all the judges”.
