Hasmo girls warned about short skirts and jewellery

Orthodox school says it will be vigilant in enforcing dress code

The new headteacher of Hasmonean High School’s girls’ section has threatened to send home pupils whose summer skirts are too short.

Katie Brice, who joined the school in January, told parents that “as the weather has got warmer, the uniform standards have begun to slip and we plan to be very vigilant about this after half-term.”

When girls were “all in black tights, it was less obvious that some skirts were becoming too short”.

According to the Orthodox school’s dress code, knees should not be visible.

“We will be sending girls home who are not appropriately dressed,” she warned.

Girls will also be checked for compliance with jewellery regulations which permit “one pair of earrings in the lower lobe” and a necklace with a religious symbol.
Rings, bracelets and anklets are prohibited.

Banned items would be confiscated just for the day on the first offence but thereafter for the whole of term, she warned.
