Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson discussed the repercussions of the attack on Manchester’s Heaton Park Synagogue with school leaders during a visit to Yavneh College in Hertfordshire on Thursday.

The minister, who is standing for the deputy leadership of the Labour Party, saw how the primary and secondary schools were supporting pupils after last week’s shocking events.

Following her visit, arranged with PaJeS, Phillipson said it had been “a privilege to join school leaders, parents and pupils at Yavneh College as they’ve been celebrating the Succot festival.

“I know that this will have been an upsetting time for many and I was grateful for the opportunity to thank those in the school for the way in which they have supported the local community following the abhorrent terrorist attack in Manchester last week.”

She added: “Hatred and division have no place in our society and stopping any form of antisemitism in education will always be my priority. That is why we have made £7 million available to tackle antisemitism in schools, colleges and universities so that every child and student feels safe and supported.”
