Margot Buller, the head of Clore Tikva primary in Ilford, is to retire at the end of term after seven years in charge of the pluralist school.
She joined in September 2019 for what was initially to be a one-year appointment and within six months had raised its Ofsted standing from a school that “requires improvement” to one recognised as good.
At its last inspection just over a year ago, Ofsted said it had high expectations for its enthusiastic pupils who enjoyed a broad and engaging curriculum.
Louise Darling, chair of governors, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Margot for her dedication, leadership, and the lasting contribution she has made to Clore Tikva. Her impact on the school community will be felt for many years to come.”
Her leadership during Covid and the challenge of more recent events on the community had been marked by resilience, compassion and steadfast focus on ensuring the school continued to thrive, governors said.
The school’s transition to one-form entry had helped to secure a stable and confident future.
Buller said it “had been the greatest privilege of my career to serve as headteacher of Clore Tikva over the past seven years. I am incredibly proud of all that we have achieved together as a school community.
“From our dedicated staff to our supportive families and, most importantly, our wonderful pupils, it has been a joy to be part of such a special place. The school and wider community have made me feel so welcome and to be welcomed by such a special a Jewish community such as this is a wonderful thing.
“While I look forward to the next chapter, I will always cherish my time at Clore Tikva and the strong foundations we have built together. I have every confidence that the school will continue to thrive and go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”

Deputy head Leigh Wertheim will act as interim head while a search for a permanent new leader goes on.
This is the third headship at a Jewish school to become vacant in recent weeks. Marc Shoffren is to leave Alma also at the end of term, while King Solomon High’s Michele Phillips will be moving on in mid-May.
