Three British schools joined others across the Jewish world this week in screening a new film about the price Israeli soldiers have had to pay in defence of their country.
When the Smoke Clears: A Story of Brotherhood, Resilience and Hope tells the story of three soldiers injured in battle, exploring their fears and hopes through their own words and animation.
JFS, Kantor King Solomon and Yavneh College showed it for Yom Hazikaron, when Israel commemorates those who fell in battle. It was made by Imaginations Productions for Jerusalem U, which specialises in Jewish-themed educational films.
Daniel Jackson, a year-12 student at Yavneh, said: “the film was extremely moving and showed us the harsh reality and raw emotions of life for injured soldiers.
“It reminded us all of the ongoing battle that Israel faces and helped us to connect to Yom Hazikaron in a way that we have not done before.”
