I do like to eat healthily, believe it or not, but my good intentions don't always pay off.
Butternut squash soup: I love a good soup and this is my favourite. I roast the squash, cut it up and blitz it.
Sea bass: I always order this is restaurants. I particularly love it steamed Chinese-style with ginger, garlic and soy sauce .
Chilli con soya: My boyfriend makes this with veggie mince. I like it spicy but not too spicy. The secret ingredient is a little peanut butter.
Salad: I call it an everything salad. It consists of the basic lettuce , cucumber and tomato and then I throw in leftovers like sweetcorn, asparagus or artichokes.
Tiramisu: My sister's recipe for this Italian dessert includes a little Cointreau. It's the best thing in the world.
Debbie has hit on two winners in the healthy eating stakes: salads and soups. Starting from a vegetable base, meat, fish, eggs and pulses can be added to either to form a main meal or light meal.
Eaten as workday lunches, they provide a welcome change from sandwiches. They require little or no added fat other than a small amount of olive, sunflower or other vegetable oil in a salad dressing or vegetable spread as the basis for a roux in the soup. Fruit can add colour and interest while nuts and seeds give crunch to salads.
Steamed or grilled sea bass is an excellent low-fat choice for anyone looking for a healthy restaurant option. Soya mince has less saturated fat than standard mince; 25g of soya protein per day has been found to lower blood cholesterol levels. Try replacing mascarpone cheese in tiramisu with ricotta or reduced fat cream cheese, if eaten on a more regular basis.
