'PETronage' works well for blind and disabled charity

articlemain

Donald the tortoise is the latest addition to Jewish Blind & Disabled’s animal collection.

Belonging to 13-year-old Hasmonean High pupil Lelly Unsdorfer, Donald has been enrolled in JBD’s PETron programme.

Owners can sign up their furry, fluffy or hard-shelled friends for £5 a month, the money going towards the charity’s care for adults of all ages with physical disability or visual impairment.

PETrons are sent a name tag, toys and other treats. There is also an annual contest for cutest pet, which was judged last year by Jonathan Ross.

The charity sees the scheme as both awareness raising and a way to involve people in small-scale fundraising.
