Reubens, the only kosher restaurant in London's West End, is to reopen under the ownership of Lee Landau, whose S Group of kosher restaurants includes Soyo, Pizaza and Delicatessen.

In May, the Baker Street restaurant announced its immediate closure, after 46 years in business, because of a family bereavement. The hope is that it will be back in business next month.

"We are thrilled to be giving Reubens another lease of life, while importantly maintaining the integrity of this well-loved institution," Mr Landau said today.

The iconic premises will receive a facelift and a there are plans to launch a new restaurant downstairs at a later date.

Jonathan Moradoff of property advisers Davis Coffer Lyons, which completed the sale, said it was good news for both the community and tourists in central London.

"Lee Landau has a very highly regarded reputation in kosher cuisine which puts him in a fantastic position to capitalise on the following that Reubens has established over so many decades.”

Reubens was originally further down Baker Street, but moved to new premises after a fire in 1995.
