The New IsraeI Fund, advancing democracy and equality in Israel, has enjoyed a record year, raising £2.76 million, a 40 per cent rise on its previous best.

According to chief executive Adam Ognall, key factors included its most successful human rights awards dinner and an increase in support from established donors. “We also managed to achieve a number of large first-time gifts, particularly in relation to shared society initiatives and in support of human rights groups in Israel.

“In the face of renewed legislative efforts to limit minority rights, increased pressure on human rights and an undermining of social diversity in Israel, these figures clearly show that supporters of Israel in the UK are making a strong collective statement.”

The increased support allowed NIF to allocate £2.41 million to organisations and projects promoting change in Israeli society.

One beneficiary has been Tag Meir, tackling violence and hate crime against minority groups in Israel and promoting tolerance through education and advocacy.
