Mill Hill East Jewish Community to become full member of United Synagogue

Co-founders Josh Kleiman and Avi Gillis expressed delight at the community attaining full US membership

The United Synagogue Council has voted overwhelmingly in favour of Mill Hill East Jewish Community joining the US as a full member synagogue.

After the US's strategic review in 2015, a Communities of Potential project was set up to identify and develop locations for new congregations.

In early 2016, Mill Hill East and Millbrook Park was recognised as an area of Jewish growth. Following an open evening attended by 80 people, MHE was formed and held its first Friday night service that September.

Its fortnightly Shabbat services now attract around 70 people and it holds educational, social and family events and participates in wider activities such as Mitzvah Day.

Co-founders Josh Kleiman and Avi Gillis expressed delight at the community attaining full US membership. We will continue to work with them to ensure we fulfil our aim of building a vibrant and inclusive Jewish community in the area and providing a rich Jewish life - religiously, educationally and culturally - for all our members.”
