Ilan Halberstadt is the new rabbi of Machzike Hadath Synagogue in Golders Green following the retirement of Rabbi Chaim Zundel Pearlman.

Born and brought up in the UK, Rabbi Halberstadt spent several years studying in Israel and holds a psychology degree from University College London.

The 40-year-old previously served the Nefesh Hatorah community in Edgware. His wife Ruthie is a respected educator.

Rabbi Halberstadt said he was honoured to lead the 90-member congregation.

“It is well known that the shul has a rich history and has played a pivotal role in Anglo-Jewry. I look forward to continuing its good name.”
