Rochel Abrams has insider knowledge of Loughton Federation Synagogue, where her husband Yanky takes over as rabbi in March.

For the Canadian-born rebbetzen has headed the Essex congregation’s cheder since September.

Originally from Manchester, Rabbi Abrams has been assistant minister at Woodford Forest United Synagogue for the past 18 months.

He said Loughton Federation was “known for its warmth and family-friendly atmosphere and possesses the tools and potential for growth and success.

“We feel so fortunate that our family are going to be part of such a wonderful community.”

Located on the edge of Epping Forest, the shul, founded in 1947, has a membership of around 200 families. It has hosted numerous simchahs over the past year.

The Abrams — who have two young children — will be at the congregation’s sold-out Shabbat UK dinner on March 1 and will formally take charge on March 24.

Loughton chair Gary Stern said the shul had been fortunate to find “a rabbi and rebbetzen with enthusiasm for Judaism coupled with a friendly and approachable manner to lead, inspire and enhance our community”.
