Boris Johnson: 'I feel shame that we are dealing with resurgent antisemitism'

Prime Minister also expresses admiration for survivors in message to the Holocaust Educational Trust

Boris Johnson has praised the inspirational efforts of survivors to educate new generations in his message to the Holocaust Educational Trust's Book of Commitment for Holocaust Memorial Day. But he also acknowledged the problem of rising antisemitism.

The Prime Minister wrote: "I am lost in admiration for the Holocaust survivors who continue to tell the world of the horrors that took place on our continent. I feel positive shame that here in Britain in 2020, we seem to be dealing with a problem of resurgent antisemitism.

"I vow that as Prime Minister, I will dedicate myself to the support of the Holocaust Educational Trust. We must keep the truth alive, so that the next generation can have absolutely no doubt about what happened, because only then can we prevent it from happening again."

Hundreds of politicians have signed the book, an act which HET chief executive Karen Pollock stressed was "not a photo opportunity, but a way to commit to remembering the Holocaust – one of the darkest and most defining moments of human history".
