An illustration of a historic East End synagogue is set to earn £20,000 for its restoration fund.
Illustrator Lucinda Rogers - who has worked for newspapers including the Guardian and the Daily Telegraph - produced the orange, red and pink image of Sandys Row Synagogue last year.
"I wanted her to record the moment just before the synagogue went for its £500,000 restoration," Sandys Row board member Jeremy Freedman explained. "We still have much more to do, putting in disabled access and making sure the synagogue can serve our membership, which is both young people moving to the East End and older members."
Different sized versions of the image will cost up to £550, and 60 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Friends of Sandys Row. "We hope to make around £20,000, which we could do so much with," Mr Freedman said.
Ms Rogers - who is selling the work through her website - said the artistic attraction had been to capture the building at a pivotal point in the synagogue's history.
"I draw from life. I like to record things at a particular moment, and Jeremy asked me to come and record this moment for the synagogue. The spot I found to draw from was in the ladies' gallery, which allowed me to see the whole view of the synagogue, but also to concentrate on drawing the smaller details. It's a lovely combination.
"I wanted to help support the synagogue because of how unique it is. So much is changing in this area and it's important to preserve the history, as well as using it in the present."
