The Sussex Express newspaper claimed recently that a couple in Lewes had turned away contractors who arrived at their home with an Israeli device.
No plans to stop fitting water meters made in the Galilee
Southern Water admitted it had postponed some installations while it arranged meetings to discuss “a few further complaints” with customers. But a spokesman said it would not take a political stance on issues in the Middle East.
He said: “There has been no change in metering policy. It remains the same as at the start of the programme — to continue to install Arad meters.
“We have identified them as being the meter which offers the best available technology and customer and environmental benefits.”
The company did install a non-Israeli meter at one property in Brighton in July after a resident complained to a company director.
Southern Water said it did not comment on individual cases and could not explain why the woman’s request had been granted.
