Frances has volunteered for All Aboard’s Edgware-based head office for two and a half years
Why All Aboard?
For most of my working life I ran my late husband’s chartered surveying office. Having been recently widowed, I was looking for a fulfilling office-based volunteering position.
What does your volunteering involve?
I go into the All Aboard office twice a week. My duties include approaching manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and catalogue companies to procure merchandise to boost donations to the shops. I have been surprised at the success I have had and gratified by the response from the people I approach. I always follow up donations with a “Thank You” letter.
What do you most enjoy about being a volunteer?
Being able to do something useful for someone else and knowing that my successes bring greater sales to the shops, and therefore greater profits to the charitable causes All Aboard supports.
What Is your most memorable volunteering moment?
Getting more than 5,000 donated pieces of clothing and housewares for All Aboard from a cold call. Timing is everything!
