The semi-retired former corporate executive has volunteered for Jewish Care since 1992
Why Jewish Care?
I have always had a passion for working with the elderly and ensuring that they are able to maintain their dignity. As a child I visited my grandparents in a care home and realised the importance of ensuring people in care are offered a range of activities that suit their needs.
What does your current volunteering involve?
I chair the summer fete committee at Jewish Care’s Princess Alexandra Home. I put together a planning committee for the first fete at the home two years ago and was able to involve members from another Jewish Care fundraising group I am involved with.
What do you most enjoy about being a volunteer?
I enjoy working with groups of people and encouraging them to make that extra effort to put an event together, knowing that the outcome will benefit the residents. I take great pride in witnessing the culmination of everyone’s efforts and watching it all come together.
What is your most memorable volunteering moment?
It was in June 2008, at the committee’s first fete in the grounds of the Princess Alexandra Home. Seeing an expanse of people from young to old enjoying the atmosphere we had tried so hard to create gave me a real sense of achievement and pride.
