A long-running feud between followers of the two sons of the Viznitzer Rebbe has spilled over on to the streets of the Israeli town of Bnei Brak.

The two men,
Yisrael and Menachem Mendel, started the broiges 20 years ago when the older son, Yisrael, was removed from his position.

The battle has been characterised by bouts of streimel-snatching — with young men nicking the valuable furry hats of their rivals from the opposing camp.

In recent weeks there has been a streimel amnesty, during which hats stolen during the hostilities have been returned. The truces are short-lived, however, and new bouts of streimel-snatching look inevitable.
