Finchley resident Philip Rosen, 85, first viewed Alyth's streaming service last Yom Kippur.

"The idea is terrific," he said, "although it's always the way with technology that sometimes you have a few problems. The synagogue is on a tight budget. Of course, it can be frustrating when you're relying on the streaming, but there's going to be even more improvements this year in time for Yom Kippur."

He added that after "four years of surgical-related hell", he struggled to get to synagogue, particularly on the High Holy-Days when Alyth's services were held in a marquee in the Sternberg Centre.

"We lost our son Andrew 25 years ago, and my wife and I always want to attend Yizkor [the memorial service] to remember him. This is a very good solution. It's like you're really there participating."
