The veteran journalist, Eric Silver, who wrote for the JC for more than 21 years, died on Tuesday night in Jerusalem.

Born in Leeds, Silver read politics, philosophy and economics at Oxford before joining his first newspaper, the Harrogate Herald. He began his 27-year career with The Guardian in Manchester in 1960, becoming the industrial relations correspondent.

He stayed in Israel until 1984 when he and his wife Bridget went to Delhi for a three year posting for The Guardian. On his return to Israel, where his three daughters had largely grown up, he decided to become an Israeli citizen and launched a new and successful freelance career, working for the JC, The Independent, the Jerusalem Report, Time Magazine, and papers in India and Canada.
