A programme of tributes to "Lady Jakobovits at 80" was held at Bevis Marks Synagogue. Michael Freedland chaired the event, Gordon Brown sent a congratulatory message and Board of Deputies president Henry Grunwald and rabbis Alan Plancey and Abraham Levy were among the speakers. Lady Jakobovits's grandson and great-grandchildren were among the entertainers. In her response, she joked: "Who is this wonderful person Lady J? I'd like to meet her!"
