Brighton rocks
After months of building and testing, Brighton’s long-awaited new landmark has finally opened with the pod on the British Airways i360 tower taking its first “flight”.
The world’s tallest moving observation tower lets visitors glide up to 450ft above the city in a glass viewing pod, looking out across the south coast. The trips last 20 minutes during the day, and half an hour after 6pm when the pod transforms itself into the Nyetimber Sky Bar.
Tickets cost from £13.50 for adults and from £6.75 for children, under-fours go free. Book at BritishAirwaysi360.com or by calling 03337 720 360 (£2 surcharge for phone bookings).
Opera comes to Akko
Akko is hosting the first Meet in Galilee opera festival from September 24-26, with performances of a string of Baroque operatic classics by composers including Handel and Purcell.
Aiming to break down misconceptions about the region and attract new visitors, the music has been chosen to transcend the boundaries of culture, race and religion.

See more London
There’s a new hotspot in the capital this summer — and it’s Tooting. That’s according to Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who’s joined 12 other local bloggers to highlight some of the city’s hidden gems, away from the big attractions in Zone 1.
His tips include spotting wildlife and eating homemade ice cream on Tooting Common, taking a swim in the Grade II listed Art Deco lido, visiting the market and trying food from around the world, including South Asian dishes.
And while the insider guides are aimed at visitors to the city who want to discover London’s less well-known areas and get a taste of living like a local, only the most dedicated Londoner will have ticked off everything from Shoreditch and Stratford to Hoxton, Hammersmith and Hampstead.
Check out Visitlondon.com/areas to find the UK’s first Buddhist temple, nitrogen ice cream and a rooftop cinema.
