February 19 2010:
A group of Beijing cows were used by British rabbi Shimon Freundlich, head of Lubavitch in China, to bring kosher milk to the city. The few who kept kosher in the capital no longer had to make do with powdered milk on their cornflakes, with fresh Chalav Yisrael supervised milk available for the first time.
February 21 1997:
A Polish artist infuriated the Lego toy firm by using its building bricks to construct models of concentration camps. The sets on show in Copenhagen included barbed-wire fences, guards and skeletons, barracks and crematoria.
A Lego spokesman said the artist, Zbigniew Libera, was expected “to build a model of a hospital and houses. Had we known in advance of his plans we would not have given him a single Lego piece.”
February 16 1968:
The order of service was headed: “HM Prison, Wormwood Scrubs”. The occasion was the visit of Chief Rabbi Immanuel Jakobovits to one of London’s largest prisons to deliver a service to 14 Jewish inmates. Two prisoners acted as ushers.
