A quiet room in a synagogue may seem a paradox. But Alyth believes its new meditation room, dedicated this week, may be a first in the UK.

The north-west London Reform community will offer meditation sessions on Wednesday evenings but the room will be available at other times for those who want "peace, quiet and contemplation", says Rabbi Mark Goldsmith (right).

Alyth has run "kavannah yoga" before Shabbat services for several years. "It's about reaching out to parts of the Jewish community who can be tough to reach with conventional prayer services," Rabbi Goldsmith said.
