Laura Saperstein maintained her unbeaten professional record after claiming her seventh straight points’ victory at the York Hall in Bethnal Green.

A last-minute change of opponent did not unsettle Saperstein, 37, whose original opponent, rising Welsh star Lana Cooper, pulled out three days before the fight through illness. In the end, the far more experienced Bulgarian Galina Gymlisska, who has had 24 professional fights, was drafted in. It made no difference to the Australian-born fighter who put in a convincing display over the four rounds.

Saperstein said: “I did feel a little disappointed and thought I could have performed better. But after watching the highlights I was pleased with my performance and I think it is something I can build upon.”

The former City lawyer has been offered a chance to fight Lindsey Scragg for the Intercontinental title, but admits she is not ready. “I still believe I’m learning and am not quite there just yet. I will need three or four more fights before I even consider the idea. But I hope to get my next fight arranged very soon.”
