GREATER MANCHESTER AMATEUR CRICKET LEAGUE
Kashmir CC, 196 for 8
Salford Blue Jays CC, 89 all out
Kashmir won by 107 runs.
Another battling performance by Salford could not prevent them losing to league leaders Kashmir at St Pauls.
Salford lost an important toss meaning that Kashmir had the best of the batting conditions. However tight bowling by Salford’s opening bowlers, Adam Schogger and Yasir Riaz kept the run rate at less than 4 runs an over.
A bowling change in the 10th over saw Captain Jonny Wineberg pick up the first of his 4 wickets, quickly followed by an excellent catch at mid-on by Rafi Dines off a towering shot from the bowling of Waseem Hassan.
Wineberg and Waseem further stifled the Kashmir batting as they could only reach 65 for 3 at the 20 over break.
The drinks seemed to revitalise Kashmir as they began to punish any bad ball and an 87 fourth wicket partnership took them to 127 before Abid (31) holed out to Indy Samra at long off of Waseem (10-2-25).
It took a superb diving, one handed catch at deep mid-wicket by Daniel Bourke off the bowling of Wineberg (7-4-33) to dislodge top scorer Khalid (59). Kashmir finished at 196 for 8 off their 40 overs, a score that should have been within Salford’s capacity.
After the tea break, with a heavy cloud now covering an increasingly gloomy ground, Salford began their reply slowly.
The ball was moving in the air and off the pitch and this, combined with some poor shot selection, saw Salford wickets tumble.
Josh Dansky was at his most stubborn but needed more support from his teammates. A 19 partnership with Adam Schogger (9) and 24 with Wineberg (13) for the 5th and 8th wickets respectively gave brief glimmers of hope but Dansky was eventually bowled for 23 and Salford subsided to 89 all out in 28 overs.
