Hyde Park boss David Domb has warned his players they must cut out their defensive errors following an almighty scare against Leeds Maccabi 3rd.
Domb’s men led 4-0 before ten minutes of madness allowed Maccabi to score three times and give themselves a shot at a second consecutive victory.
Rovers hit back with Oli Grant completing his hat-trick to seal the win and push them into third place in the MJSL.
But Domb was less than impressed with the way his side surrendered their advantage, against a Maccabi side with just one win to their name all season.
“I really did have my heart in my mouth when they got back to 4-3,” said Domb.
“You have to give a lot of credit to Maccabi because they’re a bunch of kids playing in men’s football and they really battled.
“We gave away silly goals and they all came from defensive mistakes. We really need to cut that sort of thing out.
“It’s definitely something we need to work on and improve on because we need to hit form when we come back.
“We’ve got the Peter Morrison Trophy game coming up and we won’t be able to defend like that.”
Rovers looked like they were cruising to victory following Grant’s tenth minute penalty.
Grant added a second soon after and David Herman grabbed a third before the interval after rounding off a flowing team move.
Jacob Nevitt made it 4-0 to seemingly kill off any hopes of a Maccabi comeback before the game sprung into life.
Adam Kristall, Dan Davidson and Joseph Jackson all scored in quick succession as the visitors threatened to pull off a stunning fightback.
But Nevitt’s second of the game and Grant’s hat-trick goal was enough to see off a spirited Maccabi.
“It’s difficult to explain why we conceded those goals,” said Domb.
“We dropped off and they fought back. They were all poor errors from us.
“We’re going to look what we can do about our defending because we need to make sure we concede fewer goals.
“But going into the break, we’re pretty happy with where we are and we’re looking forward to coming back and competing in January.”
