War has placed the British soldier centre stage. But no offering has been more convincing than Adam Brace’s story about a mercenary Brit (Shaun Dooley) whose comrade has either been kidnapped or gone awol.
During the search, Michael Longhust’s promenade National/Bush Theatre co-production leads its audience through a narrative that sheds light on a soldier of fortune’s shadowy world of hotels, prostitutes, shredded nerves and deadly ambushes. You come out thinking you have visited the real thing. Brace writes with humour and authenticity and is supported by a fine cast. Quite brilliant.
