Poor old Paula Abdul. It seems the former pop star and choreographer won’t be able to take part in Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, and all because she is a judge on rival talent show American Idol. Abdul has said: “I’d be honoured [to appear on Dancing]. I want to wear the pretty dresses!” But meanie Nigel Lithgow, the producer of Idol, told In Touch entertainment website: “As far as I’m concerned, Paula is American Idol and our judge. It’s like asking Simon [Cowell] to sing. Why would I want that? It’s not that Paula wouldn’t be good at it. She would be brilliant. But she was a dancer, so why would a dancer go on a dancing show? That doesn’t seem fair to me!” Hold on a moment — Simon Cowell singing? Why would anyone want that?

The Sex and the City movie is the talk of the town. So is Sarah Jessica Parker anything at all like Carrie? Absolutely not, according to the star. She told Associated Press: “No, [Carrie’s] totally different! She’s a much more modern woman than I am. She’s chosen not to have children at this point. She has a more colourful dating past. She gets to spend a lot more time with her friends. And her indulgence in fashion, I can’t compete.” Can’t compete? In my view, Parker beats her alter ego hands down. She is an international superstar who is also a wife and mother — plus, she has some pretty nice handbags of her own.

After an are-they-aren’t-they start to their relationship, things between Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon seem to be going well. The pair have been making their relationship increasingly public, and have been spotted out and about looking rather cosy. A pal of Gyllenhaal’s told US OK! magazine: “He knows he might be jumping the gun thinking of kids, but he knows that Reese is the one. He laughs and says he needs to propose and do this the right way. It really is first comes love, then comes marriage — cheesy as that sounds, it’s the way he thinks!” Rumour has it that although Witherspoon praises her beau for how great he is with her kids, she won’t move in with the heartthrob actor till they tie the knot.

Tori Spelling will be making a come-back as Beverly Hills 90210’s Donna Martin, this time in a spin-off of the original hit series. The actress, who is currently pregnant with baby number two, will return to playing the character that made her famous, not as a regular, but as an occasional guest star. According to Us magazine.com, the part will see her as “the owner of one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills, a shopping hot spot that is frequented by the new cast of characters.” Spelling told the website: “In some way, every show that followed 90210 was a remake of 90210. For the fans’ sake, I am really happy for them.”
