The impossible dream

Jim Pickard has a hilarious post about the song Lesley Garrett chose to sing at Labour's gala dinner yesterday: The Impossible Dream.

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.

It gets worse. I’ve just checked out the lyrics.
They include a string of allusions to inevitable defeat, unreachable
stars and so on. “Impossible dream”, “unbeatable foe”, “unbearable
sorrow”, “unreachable star”, “no matter how hopeless”, “to be willing
to die”
