The existence of a JC editor is what one might call varied. To give a flavour of how surreal it can seem, here's what I did today between 8 and 11am.
At 8am I took a call from a government special adviser, and discussed antisemitic attacks.
At 11am I spoke to a very senior Israeli diplomat and discussed Israel's Egyptian-brokered contacts with Hamas.
In between, I went to a breakfast reception organised by showbiz agent Jonathan Shalit and spoke to Christopher Biggins, the Deputy Mayor of London, a singer from the group G4, and a member of the Shadow Cabinet.
And I was introduced to one of Mr Shalit's clients, who was charm itself and seemed interested in the JC. I had no idea who she was.
After we'd spoken for five minutes, I asked someone I knew who she was. He thought I was joking. Apparently Jamelia is very well known...
