Please, save us from David Miliband's call for a change in the system to avoid yesterday's mess over Tzipi Livni's arrest warrant.
This is a crisis entirely of the Foregn Secretary's making. Mr Miliband is the one who promised Ms Livni
(then Israel's Foreign Minister), in September 2008 that he would indeed change the law,
then in February 2009 told her that – post Gaza – he was unable to expend the
political capital on amending the International Criminal Court Bill to give the
Attorney General the final say on warrants.
This is a crisis built on Mr Miliband's politicking - his wanting to carry favour with Labour MPs, and the embarrassment that he would have felt at having to
rely on Conservative votes to push any amendment through.
He is, in a word, a
hypocrite.
