There is no finer institution in British Jewry than Mitzvah Day. An astonishing 30,000 people donated 90,000 hours of their time this year, showing that it’s not how much but just how you give that really makes a difference. As Laura Marks, the founder, puts it, if we can add the word mitzvah to the English language, as we have nosh, chutzpah and schlep, then Mitzvah Day really will have been a unique success.
